HI ALL,

i read this article and was shocked to see the attitude of the political parties in KASHMIR, They have all other issues other than peace on their agenda.

ARTICLE FROM REDIFF

Drawing parallels between mass protests in Egypt the summer unrest in Kashmir, People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday stated, "Global developments have always had an impact on Kashmir". We congratulate the people of Egypt for their achievement, but they had one advantage; the army was on their side and it protected the people there," she told a press conference.

The PDP president said, "People of Egypt fought for democracy while the people in Kashmir were fighting in spite of democracy'.

"We also had a struggle for justice in Kashmir; the recent being the over four-month long summer turmoil, but the leadership here demonised thousands of youth and others by first calling them Lashkar-e-Tayiba [ Images ] agents, then paid agents, and now they are being called drug addicts," she said.

"The political class in the country had failed to respond adequately to the transition in Kashmir," she alleged.

"In the wake of 9/11 attacks, the people of Kashmir joined the global abhorrence of violence and this has been admitted by the authorities who accept that cases of infiltration and militancy have gone down. After 2002, people participated in elections and peaceful street protests, but the response from the leadership has not been positive. Therefore, it is not possible to predict the impact of Egypt's developments on Kashmir," said the PDP leader.

Reacting to Mufti's comments, the ruling National Conference on Saturday expressed 'anguish and dismay on the opposition PDP equating the Egypt uprising with last year's summer unrest in Kashmir and wanting democracy to take a back seat and the army to take over'.

State Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar claimed that the PDP chief's comments 'smack of sheer frustration and desperation because her lust for power has so enormously overwhelmed her that she mindlessly wants the people of Jammu and Kashmir [ Images ] to somehow replace the present dispensation even if it is at the cost of handing over the state to the army'.

In a joint statement, Rather and Sagar said, "PDP and its leadership have always indulged in double speak and deceitful methods to grab power by bartering the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and thwarting the process of democracy in their selfish motive of somehow getting hold of power in the state".

The role of interlocutors

Its high time that the government of INDIA define the exact role of interlocutors sent to kashmir.
Their absurd statements are critically hurting the process of resolution of the situation. As for the statements given by arundhati roy, much must not be spoken about it. The people of Kashmir must realize that their supporting the extremists is no way out. what is the need is to come to a consensus as to what the next step has to be taken. The interlocutors are making a hash of a already critical situation . Dillydallying of the issue is creating more frustration among the masses. The congress government has failed on all accounts. What else can be expected from this scam tainted government ?

At last something positive

The pain and suffering of our brethren must end, and at last there is a ray of hope. The day i started this blog , i have found something positive coming out from Kashmir. Schools have started and life is returning to normalcy. Here is an interesting article

Come together, for J&K students’ sake

Kashmiris appeal to State government, rebels for incident-free civil services exams

A day after Centre advised Jammu and Kashmir to open schools, State Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday announced a comprehensive plan for restarting the learning process and holding of annual examinations in the Valley.

“All education institutes will function without any hindrance from Monday. The State will facilitate students’ commute, and their ID cards will be treated as curfew passes,” Sayeed said. Educationists have appealed to the State, and to the separatists, to ensure that the civil services examinations are conducted in the Valley next week without a hitch.

The major grouse of Kashmiris is lack of employment, and to disrupt civil services exams would be the biggest disservice to the region.

Students have asked the Hurriyat to modify its ‘protest calender’, while the State has been requested to the clampdown. School teacher Altaf Bhat said, “While common people are the biggest losers in the tussle between State and the separatists, students are the worst-hit.”

State Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, school children demand their right to education and peace in the Valley

A University student, Parwaiz Reshi, said the State and rebels must come together. “They say students are Kashmir’s future. Can’t they come together for our sake?” he asked.

However, Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked parents not to send their wards to schools and colleges. “No right thinking person can deny the importance of education in society, but to think that they (government) are concerned about the future of our children is like a mad man's dream,” Geelani said.

My Thoughts

Being a teacher. I end up teaching the Indian freedom struggle, world war and related topics at least 5 times a year . And every time I create an environment around myself with the leaders of those era. You could equate it with to various scenes depicted in ‘RANG DE BASANTI”.. the jallianwala baug incident , the hanging of Bhagat singh and numerous such sacrifices burn my heart every year , every time. Today Kashmir is the focal point. When I see the images of the common man fighting on the streets on T.v I can see parallels between our past era and the present. I think We should try to know Why our country men are angry against their rulers whom they themselves have elected. If you are unaware pls try to know.

My reading on this issue has given me some insights which I will share next time.If any kashmiri citizen reads this, pls let me know and I will be grateful to you

our beautiful kashmir

One and all around me would be wondering, as to why i have ventured into a topic which is so very ciritcal to talk of.
First of all i would like you to know my mindset regarding this issue. As a teacher ,how i am very concerned.
The common man is very busy with daily deadlines and attempts to be on par with others. How can he ever think of a a problem that doesn't deal with him at all. That is not his problem and he is right. People who only think of their country on an independence day cant be bothered much .(for many it is another public holiday to unwind themselves) . The chalta hai attitude is so much into us that we fail to rise above the trivial issues and that is why we have landed ourselves into something which we dont want to make a part of our lives
i think we should at least try to do something.May be create a great group of people which could put their minds and hearts together and arrive at a possible solution.
I would also like to tell why i am so concerned, in my next post.
